Book 5 Chapter 139

Tafel stared up at the massive golden doors in front of her. She took in a deep breath as she placed her hands against the glossy material. Her muscles tensed, and a grunt echoed out from her mouth as she shoved as hard as she could with both her arms. The doors slid open, and Tafel took a step forward. Her arms were completely stretched out to the sides, but the doors weren’t fully opened; after all, the doors were designed with a dragon’s size in mind.

Tafel lowered her arms and looked around. The only source of light came from behind her, illuminating the darkness with a thin column of brightness. In the center of the room, on top of a massive bed, an ocean-blue dragon was curled up with its eyes closed, an expanding and shrinking snot bubble coming out of one of its nostrils.

Tafel stared at the steps leading onto the bed. There were at least four flights of stairs. Tafel’s horns glowed silver, and two portals opened: one beside her and one on top of the bed. With a single step, Tafel went through the portal and appeared by Vur’s side, skipping the tedious process of walking. Her feet sank into the bed as she walked, and if it weren’t for the blanket supporting her, she was sure the bed would be going up to her knees instead of just her ankles.

Mana swirled in Tafel’s hand as her horns glowed blue. An icicle appeared in her palm, and she used it to jab Vur’s snot bubble. The bubbled popped, the snot freezing in midair before falling to the blanket. Vur’s eyes creaked open, and he blinked a few times before his gaze focused on Tafel. He yawned, his mouth gaping wide, the suction causing Tafel’s hair to flutter forward. Vur closed his mouth and smacked his lips a few times before looking at Tafel. “Good morning.”

“Morning, Vur,” Tafel said. “Alice’s wedding starts in a few hours. I woke you up in advance, so you could get ready.”

Vur’s body shrank, and his scales receded into his skin. His wings and tails retracted, and his claws turned back into nails. He let out another yawn and scratched his belly before looking around. “What do I have to get ready?”

Tafel stared at Vur. He was naked. “For one, you could wear some clothes.”

Vur glanced down at himself and frowned. “I’ll wear pants, but do I have to wear a shirt?”

“Yes,” Tafel said. “You have to wear a shirt. And a suit. And a tie.” Tafel furrowed her brow. “I can ask Mr. Edward for a suit if you want. I’m sure he has one that’ll fit you.” Given how obsessed the noble was with Vur, Tafel wouldn’t be surprised if the skeleton had a suit that could fit Vur whilst he was polymorphed into a dragon as well.

Vur made a face. “Are Grimmy and Leila and Ramon and Gloria wearing suits to the wedding?”

“I don’t think so?” Tafel asked, raising an eyebrow. “Maybe they are. I really don’t know. Do you want me to open a portal to them for you to ask?”

Vur nodded, and Tafel sighed through her nose. Her horns glowed silver, and a face-sized portal appeared in the air in front of Vur. Tafel gestured to Vur, and he poked his head inside. A few moments later, he took his head out and looked at his wife. “They’re not wearing any clothes.”

“I don’t think they’re expected to,” Tafel said.

“What if I go in my dragon form?” Vur asked. “Do I still have to wear a suit?”

Tafel shook her head. “You can’t go in your dragon form.”

Vur tilted his head. “Why not?”

“We have to dance at weddings,” Tafel said. “If you turn into a dragon, how am I supposed to dance with you?” She raised a finger and pointed at Vur before he could speak. “And don’t say you’re going to turn me into a dragon as well.”

Vur closed his mouth and pouted. A second later, he sighed. “Alright,” he said. “I’ll wear a suit. What else do I have to do?”

“Nothing else,” Tafel said. “I already have the presents wrapped and ready to go. As for transport, all we need to do is open a portal. However, I still have to get dressed and make myself look presentable.

Vur yawned again and blinked a few times. “How long until the wedding starts?”

“Four hours,” Tafel said. She paused. “Well, there’s a little less time now, but around there.”

Vur scratched his head. “Can you wake me up in three and a half hours? I don’t need that long to put on a suit.”

Tafel stared at Vur. “Isn’t there anything else you’d like to do?” she asked. “I know you think sleeping is nice and all, but how about reading some books or viewing some pieces of art from time to time?” She pointed at Vur again before he could speak. “Yes, you can do that in your sleep, but doesn’t it give you a different feeling when you do it while awake?”

Vur nodded. “It makes me tired when I do it while I’m awake,” he said. “When I’m asleep, I won’t get tired no matter how much I read. I can read for days while sleeping.”

Tafel scratched her head. “So, you actually do things while you’re asleep, right? Sleeping is basically entertainment for you?”

Vur nodded again.

“And it’s more fun than anything you can do while you’re awake?”

Vur shook his head. “I can’t be with you while I’m asleep,” he said and wrapped his arm around Tafel’s shoulder, pulling her in close. “Sleeping is great and all, but I like spending time with you more.”

Tafel’s face flushed red, and she pursed her lips. “There were plenty of times when you complained about not getting to sleep or not getting enough sleep while I was around.”

Vur scratched his nose. “I can’t help it if I get tired,” he said. “Even if we’re having fun on an adventure, we still have to stop to eat. It’s the same thing.”

“I see,” Tafel said and leaned her head against Vur’s shoulder, poking him with her horns. “Alright, I’ll wake you up when it’s time to change and leave then.”

    Thanks for the chapter!
So, Vur is basically a super lucid dreamer?
